Lord Wedgwood - news of his death
The obituaries are beginning to appear in many newspapers and news services around the world. Here is our favorite so far. Philly.com has done a nice job of telling about Piers. He and Jean were an integral part of the Philadelphia area social scene, their primary residence being there, Jean's hometown. Unfortunately the press release from Barlaston, and found by me through Yahoo.com's financial news feed, has several informative paragraphs about Piers, and then a commercial ending describing WWRD. Poor taste and unnecessary. Anyone who cares that Piers has died will already know who and what WWRD is..... this information was provided by the Wedgwood Waterford Royal Doulton PR channels, what a shame they can't be more respectful of a person who gave his life for the company - poor form folks!

PIERS, LORD WEDGWOOD HAS DIED IN PHILADELPHIA
I am very sorry to announce that Piers Anthony Weymouth Wedgwood, Lord Wedgwood, has died in Philadelphia from a massive coronary. Piers suffered the ill effects of heart disease for many years. Just this week he was on a heart-transplant list, but was removed Tuesday from that list, doctors speculating he would not survive surgery. Piers is survived by his lovely, devoted wife Jean and daughter Sasha, 26, who was the apple of his eye. May we all stop and think about him as we admire our Wedgwood wares and wish him a peaceful eternity full of love. In the photo below from 1999, Piers had just presented me the prize in a drawing at a fund-raiser for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, here in St. Louis. I think the ladies thought the drawing was rigged!
Piers was 59, born in Kenya and became the 4th Baron of Barlaston at the young age of 15 after the passing of his father, also at a young age and from heart disease.
Funeral / memorial service arrangements are incomplete at this time, but will be posted when learned. Lord Wedgwood's family requests memorial donations be given to the Lord Wedgwood Charity, at www.lwcharity.com.

INTERESTING TAKE ON THE WEDGWOOD MUSEUM FIASCO
I am sorry, I lost the URL from which I obtained this, but think it is an excellent capsulized look at the overall situation, which is still not resolved, much later than was originally promised. The visual image of that brutally split Portland Vase really brings home the situation in one visual punch!

WEDGWOOD BIRTHDAY SALUTE TO LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
Produced by Wedgwood in 1970 for the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, this black basalt portrait medallion of the musical genius is a fine tribute to the work of Wedgwood modeller Eric Owen, well known for his busts of several famous historic figures. Frequently we remove portrait medallions from their frames but this one is so beautiful we have left it just as we found it. HAPPY 243rd BIRTHDAY to a man who has brought musical magic to so many for so long! Click the link to see this item in our inventory. FREE SHIPPING IF HE IS PURCHASED MONDAY DECEMBER 16th, let him celebrate with a fine new home!

Wedgwood "BIG HOUSE" endangered in Stoke on Trent
It appears the 1751 Wedgwood family home known as The Big House is deteriorating and the damage and its possible repair are involved in an insurance claim. Go here to see an article on the situation. What a shame it would be to lose this historic building!
