Unfortunately there is a lot of erroneous information about all facets of the Wedgwood subject all over the Internet. Ebay is full of huge errors and just plain stupidity on the subject. MANY websites contain glaring errors. If one wants to learn about Wedgwood go to well-known and respected sites. Ours is one such site, we have been selling Wedgwood for nearly 20 years, but more than that, studying it, writing about it, collecting it and enjoying it for over 50 years. Here is another good source of accurate information - there are some good snippets of accurate historic information there. I will be the first to point out that the Wedgwood company's own websites frequently contain gross errors, but this site and the Wedgwood Museum site usually have good, accurate information. Give them a try!
Many obituaries have appeared around the world upon the recent death of our friend Lord Wedgwood. There are some errors in many of them. He was 15 when he assumed the Wedgwood peerage, upon the death of his father, also at an early age, in 1970. He was not a member of the House of Lords after the 1999 Peerage Act, but of course still retained his title. He was a member of the Royal Automobile Club of England, the London Racquet Club and The Philadelphia Club and a member of several Wedgwood societies around the globe. His Memorial Service will take place on March first in Philadelphia. If you wish to make any comments about your own encounters with His Lordship, feel free to comment here.
SPELLING WEDGWOOD INCORRECTLY PITIFUL, WHEN GRANDMAMA DOES IT, PRICELESS!
The obituaries are beginning to appear in many newspapers and news services around the world. Here is our favorite so far. Philly.com has done a nice job of telling about Piers. He and Jean were an integral part of the Philadelphia area social scene, their primary residence being there, Jean's hometown. Unfortunately the press release from Barlaston, and found by me through Yahoo.com's financial news feed, has several informative paragraphs about Piers, and then a commercial ending describing WWRD. Poor taste and unnecessary. Anyone who cares that Piers has died will already know who and what WWRD is..... this information was provided by the Wedgwood Waterford Royal Doulton PR channels, what a shame they can't be more respectful of a person who gave his life for the company - poor form folks!
